Ah, this peice of info is really useful but Facebook is so annoying that i’ll soon quit using it.
Somya, i don’t think that Orkut bombards you with stupid messages or steals the info. They do have notification system for scraps/messages etc. but u can easily turn them off. Or is there something that i am not aware of? :s

It is only recently that the lock feature has been enabled. Apart from stealing information, stupid messages and friend requests are incessant on orkut, its actuallty worse than facebook in terms of privacy.

yea recently but they are there now. one gets stupid messages majorly from their friends and from communities. you can ban the ones sent by using community sent message option.
As for privacy, they do have option (now) if you don’t want others (those not on friend list) to see your photos and scraps.
Friend requests are there but even on facebook you have to face them.
It’s obviously a matter of personal opinion but I really feel that Orkut is better than Facebook when it comes to privacy and they are improving things.
For me MySpace is best when it comes to privacy.

Hey did you not hear about this software for which you have to have Mozilla so to unlock the albums and scrapbook, hence, view them? It is all so unsafe, online networking is getting deadlier by the day with cases like Adnan only adding to apprehension, dont you think??

Oh yea, i read about it somewhere. Social Networking IS indeed dangerous but so is real life.
It’s like living another life all together. And I believe that one shouldn’t try to mix these two (real and virtual) lives. It’s then when things get dangerous.
Social Networking has been around for long time, people have been communicating with each other even before things like orkut and facebook weren’t around.
Forums(bulletin boards) and blogs have allowed people to have their own profiles long before myspace came in.
But now things have indeed been revolutionised and there are way too many networking sites. which makes it easier for everyone to be a part of this virtual revolution.
But I would like to ask, how is it any different than real life?
You can lock your home but it’s never secure from theives and all. I can go on with examples but i guess thats enough for now. :P
and yea, one can always play it safe by not entering personal info online and u/l pics.
